WP F – Georesources Governance & OAGS/GSOs Institutional Strengthening

Training sessions for georesources governance will:

Be focused around OAGS General Meetings
Be based on the institutional roles of key European PanAfGeo partners: BRGM (PanAfGeo Coordinator), EGS Presidency and EGS Secretariat
Improve the effectiveness of OAGS, it’s governing structure and its capacity to work as a hub for the provision of benefits to the members
Provide training on the general management and governance of georesources, especially in relation to the the other PanAfGeo work packages
Improve OAGS’ ability to facilitate co-operation between African Geological Surveys across the continent for levelling up competencies and capacities
Work on tools and skills to improve transparency of Geological Surveys role and mandate, and their external relations activities

Strengthen recognition of the role of OAGS among continental and international circles (AU, academia, UN bodies etc)
Link OAGS with private sector associations, NGOs, development organisations and financial institutions to increase sustainable trade, transparency and traceability and institutional reforms
Reinforce the individual collaborations between EU and African Surveys
Expand the institutional relations among EC services (e.g. DG-GROW, JRC, DG-ENV) and PanAfGeo to maximise the benefits of the project
Guarantee the sustainability of the project by establishing permanent links and synergies between OAGS and the African Geological Surveys and the other players, in particular the European Geological Surveys and institutions

WP-F aims to fulfil the overall and specific objectives by:

providing national, regional and continental support to policy-making and planning processes for mineral resources, and in a broader extent
increasing governance of their institutions
creating operational governance and dissemination tools for natural resources related to policy sectors
Providing opportunities for dialogue and networking between all participants, trainees and trainers, Europeans and Africans, building relationships at individual, national and continental levels

WP-F is led by TNO (The Netherlands) in close cooperation with GeoZS (Slovenia), BRGM (France), PGI (Poland) and EGS and with the assistance of African Geological Surveys.
