The call for the next WP-E “Geohazards and Environmental Management of Mines” training is now open. This upcoming training will take place in Blantyre, Malawi, 6-12 November 2022 (IN ENGLISH).
The aim of the Work Package Geohazards and Environmental Management of Mines (WP-E) is to perform multi-module and multidisciplinary theoretical and practical training on assessment, identification and monitoring of geohazards (natural and anthropogenic), prevention and mitigation of hazardous consequences of mining and promote best practices of Environmental Management of Mines.
WP-E will provide methodologies to African Geological Surveys for analysing vulnerability and risk in order to provide local authorities and involved stakeholders with useful tools for mitigating the impacts of natural and human-induced hazards. Consequently, WP-E fulfils the specific objective of the action to reinforce the capacity of African Geological Surveys to make them able to contribute with their expertise and data to informed decision-making, and to initiate a fruitful dialogue with civil society and the private sector.
PanAfGeo is an unprecedented pan-African training programme. The programme is led by European and African Geological Surveys, and therefore combines the variety of European Geological Surveys (EGS) to the variety of African Surveys, making this a unique training offer.
“WP-E – Geohazards and Environmental Management of Mines” is coordinated by the Geological Survey of Lithuania (LGT) in collaboration with the Council for Geoscience (CGS) South Africa. Along with a close technical and scientific assistance, the training support is provided by, the Polish Geological Institute-NRI, the Geological Survey of Slovenia (GeoZS) and the Geological Survey of Italy (ISPRA).
This session is organised jointly by LGT and the Geological Survey Department (GSD), Ministry of Mining, Malawi.
In order to be considered, applicants for the PanAfGeo-2 Training Session entitled WP-E – Geohazards and Environmental Management of Mines” must complete the documents listed hereafter:

These documents will be requested during the online registration (files to be uploaded in PDF format only on the portal). The applications should be submitted solely on the portal and not be sent directly to the training leaders.
